Former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody has been appointed as the global director of cricket for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the 2026 season. The announcement was made by the franchise on Tuesday through its social media platforms, hailing Moody’s “experience, vision, and leadership.”

The 60-year-old brings a wealth of international and franchise cricket experience to the role. Moody has previously served as head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in two separate stints, guiding them to their maiden IPL title in 2016. He parted ways with the franchise in 2022 after Brian Lara took over coaching responsibilities.

During his playing days, Moody represented Australia in eight Tests and 76 One-Day Internationals, scoring 1,667 runs and claiming 54 wickets across formats. Known for his towering presence and sharp cricketing acumen, he was also a formidable performer in domestic cricket, amassing over 21,000 first-class runs, including 64 centuries, along with 361 wickets in the Sheffield Shield.

His strategic insight and global experience are expected to bolster LSG’s cricketing operations, which have made steady progress since their IPL debut in 2022. The appointment signals the franchise’s intent to strengthen its backroom leadership as it eyes a title run in the coming seasons.

Moody’s track record of developing young talent and building cohesive teams has earned him respect in cricketing circles worldwide. With his appointment, Lucknow Super Giants aim to blend experience with innovation — a move that could define their future in the world’s most competitive T20 league.
