The upcoming National Lok Adalat will be held on December 13, providing an opportunity for litigants to resolve their disputes amicably through mutual settlement, announced Principal District and Sessions Judge and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chairman Rona Vasudeva.
Addressing a press conference at the District Mediation Centre on Tuesday, he stated that the Lok Adalat aims to promote quick and peaceful settlement of pending and pre-litigation cases. During the previous Lok Adalat held on July 12, a total of 2,848 pending cases and 94,782 pre-litigation cases were successfully resolved. Notably, three couples who had filed for divorce were reconciled.
At present, 49,017 cases are pending across district and taluk courts, of which 3,137 have been shortlisted for resolution in the upcoming Lok Adalat. These include 402 of 5,566 cheque bounce cases, 37 of 227 criminal compoundable cases, 353 of 4,279 property disputes, 92 of 389 motor vehicle accident cases, 64 of 836 specific relief cases, one of 112 mining-related cases, and 60 of 877 matrimonial cases.
Between July 1 and November 14, a total of 71 cases were resolved under the Special Mediation Campaign conducted over a 90-day period. Out of 1,545 ongoing court cases identified for mediation, 30 cheque bounce cases, 6 motor vehicle cases, 5 family disputes, 16 property division cases, and 14 civil suits have already been settled. The campaign will continue for another 10 days, and District Judge Rona Vasudeva expressed confidence that many more cases will be resolved during this period.
He noted that the Supreme Court recommends 50 judges for every 10 lakh people. However, the actual number of judges is far lower, resulting in heavy workloads. With Chitradurga district’s population estimated at 15 lakh, there should ideally be 75 judges, but currently only 22 are serving. Each judge is handling nearly three times the normal workload, yet efforts are being made to deliver justice swiftly, he said.
Judge Vasudeva urged litigants to take advantage of the upcoming National Lok Adalat on December 13, 2025, where disputes can be settled amicably, quickly, and free of cost. Parties may participate directly or through their advocates.
