‘State’s 33% pass rule for SSLC students welcomed’

The state government’s decision to declare SSLC students who secure 33% marks as passed has been welcomed by school management representatives. Pradeep, district president of the Unaided School Management Association, lauded the move, calling it a revolutionary reform in Karnataka’s education system.

Addressing a press conference at Netaji Popular School on Wednesday, he explained that students will now be considered pass if they score a total of 206 out of 625 marks, including internal and external assessments, and at least 30% in each subject. The decision, he said, would bring relief to thousands of students struggling with marginal scores.

The association of unaided schools (USMARD), along with aided and government school organizations in Ramanagara, extended full support to the government’s decision.

Former Government Employees’ Association president R.K. Byralingayya noted that while most states follow a uniform education policy, Karnataka had remained an exception. With this amendment, he said, the state has aligned itself with national standards, ensuring fairness for all students.

Former association president Patel Raju credited Education Secretary Shashikumar and several education experts for convincing the government to implement this change. He also thanked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa for their decisive action.

Every year, nearly six lakh students fail to pass SSLC exams, and about 22% of them drop out of school entirely. The new rule, Pradeep said, will prevent such dropouts and help lakhs of students continue their education and secure a better future.
