Serving people is our primary duty: Upalokayukta Justice B. Veerappa

Koppal

“Serving the people is our foremost duty, and government services must reach citizens efficiently,” said Upalokayukta Justice B. Veerappa during a surprise inspection of Koppal District Hospital and the 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital on Wednesday.

Justice Veerappa expressed serious concern over poor facilities, noting that beds and pillows were old, toilets unhygienic, and drinking water filters rusty or non-functional. He emphasized that government hospitals cannot prescribe medicines from outside, as they receive adequate daily grants. If issues are not rectified immediately, he warned of suo motu action against hospital authorities.

Highlighting that hospitals and hostels receive sufficient government funds, he said the problem lies in officials’ negligence, which prevents services from reaching the poor. “Government work must be viewed as service to humanity. Officials should perform their duties sincerely and treat public service as divine work,” he urged.

During his visit to the Koppal Central Bus Stand, Justice Veerappa inspected cleanliness, toilets, seating, and food stalls, directing immediate improvements. He also checked several government offices—including the Tahsildar, Municipal Council, Horticulture, Education, and Mines departments—reviewing attendance and records.

Senior officials including ZP CEO Varnit Negi, SP Dr. Ram L. Arasiddi, and Lokayukta officers accompanied him during the inspection.
