In yet another setback for India’s injury-hit squad, young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the first three T20 Internationals against Australia owing to neck spasms, the BCCI confirmed on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old, who was already recovering from a left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide, complained of stiffness and spasms in his neck that hindered his rehabilitation process. The BCCI stated that its medical team is closely monitoring his recovery and will reassess his condition ahead of the final two T20Is of the series.
“Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out for the first three T20Is. The all-rounder, who was recovering from his left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide, complained of neck spasms, which have affected his mobility. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress,” read the official statement.
Reddy had earlier missed the third ODI in Sydney due to the quadriceps issue and was expected to make a return in the shortest format. However, the fresh setback has prolonged his spell on the sidelines.
Known for his explosive batting and handy medium-pace bowling, Reddy has been plagued by a string of injuries over the past year, disrupting his consistent run at the international level. His absence poses a selection challenge for the Indian management ahead of the high-intensity T20 series against Australia, which begins later this week. The selectors are likely to consider a replacement if Reddy’s recovery does not progress as planned.
