The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Praveen Shetty faction) submitted a memorandum to the Udupi District Superintendent of Police on Tuesday, urging strict action to curb the sale and use of narcotic substances across the district.
In the memorandum, the organisation expressed concern over the increasing drug menace, stating that many youngsters have fallen prey to addiction, ruining not only their lives but also pushing their families into distress. It alleged that in some areas, drugs are being sold as easily as chocolates in shops, calling the situation alarming and deeply unfortunate.
The Vedike also sought a transparent and impartial probe into the recent suicide of Abhishek Acharya from Nitte village in Karkala taluk, who reportedly took his own life after falling victim to a honey-trap. The organisation demanded that the police uncover the network behind the case and bring the truth before the public.
The memorandum was received by Additional Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Naik. Among those present were Karave honorary president Ansar Ahmed, district president Sujay Poojari, women’s district president Jyothi Serigarthi, vice presidents Syed Nizamuddin and Devaki Barkur, district general secretary Anusha Acharya Palli, honorary advisor Jayaprakash Shetty, organising secretary Nagaraj, and several other district and taluk-level office-bearers including members from Karkala and Manipal units.
