Reports indicate a clash between Emdadul Haque Badsha’s and Gazi Siraj Ullah’s supporters after Jubo Dal activist Md. Jasim’s abduction

A violent clash between two rival groups of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) youth wing left one person dead and at least 15 others injured in Chittagong early Tuesday. The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Md. Sajjad, a member of BNP’s student wing, Chhatra Dal.
According to police, the fight erupted over a dispute involving the tearing of a banner. Baklia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ikhtiyar Uddin confirmed that a gunfight broke out between the factions, leading to Sajjad’s death. Authorities have launched a manhunt to arrest those involved in the violence.
Local reports suggest the clash occurred between followers of Emdadul Haque Badsha, a former organising secretary of the defunct Nagar Jubo Dal, and supporters of former Nagar Chhatra Dal president Gazi Siraj Ullah. The conflict reportedly began after Siraj’s followers abducted and assaulted Jubo Dal activist Md. Jasim, a supporter of Emdadul.
Witnesses said the abduction took place after Chattogram City Mayor Shahadat Hossain, a senior BNP leader, ordered the removal of banners showing photos of Siraj and his allies. When Emdadul’s group went to rescue Jasim, gunfire erupted between the two sides.
The BNP has been facing rising internal tension since it joined the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s administration. Growing power struggles and factional rivalries within the party have led to multiple violent incidents in recent months, raising concerns over stability within the BNP ranks.
