Former minister and MLA K.N. Rajanna emphasized that backward communities need political power to ensure their voices are heard, problems addressed, and constitutional rights safeguarded. Speaking at the 171st Jayanthutav and Pratibha Maraskara ceremony of Brahmashree Narayana Guru, organized by the District Arya Eediga Sangha and affiliated trusts at Ganthalaya Hall, Rajanna stressed that backward classes, like SCs and STs, should demand reservation in the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly and develop the capacity to influence the Central Government.
Highlighting past leaders, he recalled S. Bangarapan of the Eediga community, who became Chief Minister through his struggle, gaining the trust of all communities rather than relying on caste-based support. Bangarappa implemented pro-poor initiatives like Ashaya and Aradhana and provided free electricity to farmers’ pump sets, leaving a lasting impression through his actions.
Vikhyathananda Swamiji, presiding president of the Arya Eediga Mahasamsthan in Solur, praised Narayana Guru’s vision of a self-reliant, strong, and liberated society, calling for unity within the Eediga community despite sub-caste distinctions. Renukanananda Swamiji of Nittur highlighted Guru’s role in combating exploitation and illiteracy in the 18th century, pointing to Kerala’s literacy achievements as a legacy of his efforts.
MLA G.B. Jyothiganesh noted that education drives social and economic progress, echoing Narayana Guru’s philosophy. Former Minister Kumar Bangarappa urged society to honor the sacrifices of great leaders and work collectively to ensure a better future for the next generation.
The event, presided over by District Arya Eediga Sangha President M. Nagaraj, also honored distinguished community members and students for social service and excellence. Senior leaders, MLA B. Suresh Gowda, and representatives from various associations participated, reinforcing the call for unity, social development, and empowerment of backward classes.
