DCM defends city governance, Criticizes elite over pothole posts

Bengaluru

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday strongly criticized individuals who began their businesses using Bengaluru’s infrastructure, grew to large-scale enterprises, and are now publicly criticizing the city and tweeting about it.

Speaking at the Bengaluru Nadige campaign organized at the Veera Yoddha Park in Koramangala on Sunday, DCM DK Shivakumar said that those who have come and grown up in Bengaluru are tweeting about how they were in the past and how they are now. We should not forget our roots, I believe that if we forget our roots, we will not achieve success.

For the first time in the entire country, we have created a system where the public can take photos of potholes across the city and bring them to the attention of the government through a mobile app. The media is also reporting on it. I welcome criticism and critiques. Democracy has more value when there is criticism. But some people are criticizing to the point of being angry. I don’t care about such criticism. People have given us the opportunity, we are doing our job, he said.

It has been two years since our government came to power. If we look at history, no one has taken as many decisions as we have. The public and the opposition are all aware of the work we have done. There is a problem in the entire country. They are all controlling the media. We have left it free. We will take you anywhere including Delhi and Mumbai and show you the problems of the roads, he said.

Three thousand vehicles are being registered in the city every day. The population has reached 1.40 crore. 70 lakh people are coming and going from outside every day. They depend on Bangalore for many things like employment, education, trade, business and so on, he said.
