Bengaluru
Shops in the city witnessed much hustle and bustle Saturday on the occasion of Dhanteras, signalling the start of Deepavali celebrations, as large crowds flocked to buy silver, utensils, and clothes.
Arati Ravi Patil (63), purchased a Mysore Silk sari from Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Ltd at Majestic after waiting for over two hours. Holding her sari like a treasure as she exited the store, she said, We arrived at 10am. The store got stocks around 11.30am and we were allowed inside by 12.05pm. A mad rush ensued, though Arati noted that customers leaving the store appeared extremely happy. She added that the ritual brings in positivity and good vibes. In addition to the sari, Arati bought gold bangles for her granddaughter, Advaya, in honour of Dhanteras, an auspicious occasion during which people worship Goddess Lakshmi (for wealth and prosperity), Lord Kubera (the treasurer of wealth), and Lord Dhanvantari (god of Ayurveda and health).
Amid the surge in gold prices, many chose not to purchase the precious metal despite their penchant for it. Neha Arora (43), who works as operations head at a private firm in Bengaluru, bought a silver coin online that cost Rs 4,500. The price seemed reasonable, and the overall experience was hassle-free and convenient, she said, adding that Dhanteras is not about how much you buy. It is about celebrating gratitude, goodness and the light of new beginnings, she said.
