MLA demands cabinet reshuffle to include new faces

Nanjegowda stressed Congress MLAs’ unity, warned internal divisions risk future opportunities, and declined comment on Chief Minister post changes

Kolar

Malur Constituency Congress MLA K. Y. Nanjegowda has urged for a reshuffle of the ministerial portfolios in both Gujarat and Karnataka. Speaking at a District Milk Union meeting on Saturday, he said the older ministers should be replaced with new faces to bring fresh energy to the administration.

Gowda expressed frustration that despite having four Congress MLAs from Kolar district, none have been given ministerial positions. “We all worked hard to become MLAs and deserve a chance. It’s upsetting that we are being overlooked,” he said.

He added that unity among Congress MLAs in the district is crucial but also warned that internal divisions could cost them opportunities in future cabinet expansions. However, he declined to comment on any change in the Chief Minister’s post, saying such decisions lie with the party’s high command.

The MLA noted that in the BJP government of Gujarat, all ministers except the Chief Minister resigned, allowing new leaders to enter the cabinet. He said similar opportunities should be created in Karnataka to allow new leaders to serve.

Despite his criticism, Gowda said relations between the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister are good and that all MLAs are cooperating with the government.

His call for change reflects growing demands among lawmakers to refresh leadership and provide opportunities to deserving members within both states. The timing of any cabinet reshuffle, however, remains uncertain.
