Singapore, Australia launch Strategic Partnership 2.0

Canberra

Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday launched the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) 2.0, marking a new phase in bilateral cooperation during the 10th Singapore-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting in Canberra.

Wong, on a four-day official visit to Australia, arrived on October 6. This year marks 60 years of diplomatic ties between Singapore and Australia and the 10th anniversary of the CSP, launched in 2015. Over the past decade, the partnership has delivered more than 110 initiatives across six pillars: economics and trade, defence and foreign affairs, science and innovation, people-to-people ties, digital economy, and green economy.

CSP 2.0 introduces 80 initiatives, including 20 new MOUs and agreements and 11 new dialogues across five pillars: contributing to peace and stability, connecting economies, transitioning to net zero, forging new frontiers, and deepening friendships and capabilities. The leaders emphasised the need to enhance resilience, explore opportunities, and strengthen regional and global stability.

They also discussed regional and global developments, stressing economic integration, multilateralism, ASEAN-Australia relations, and a rules-based international order. Wong welcomed Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 and its A$175 million contribution to Singapore’s Financing Asia’s Transition Partnership.

The launch of CSP 2.0 reflects a deepening of ties and shared commitment to peace, innovation, and sustainable growth in the Indo-Pacific.
