“In sports, winning or losing is not the most important thing; what matters is participating with the right sportsmanship,” said Dr. Chinnappa Chikkahagade, a recipient of the National Youth Award. Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the Arjuna Cup Cricket Tournament organized by the JSC Legends team in Muttanallur village to commemorate the memory of Arjuna the elephant and the Dasara festival, he emphasized the broader value of sports.
Dr. Chikkahagade noted that in sports, the winner becomes a leader, while the one who loses learns to guide others. Participation in sports aids both mental and physical development. He encouraged students to cultivate an interest in sports from a young age, explaining that those with a sporting mindset tend to be mentally resilient and physically strong.
He expressed concern over the current generation of youth, stating that many are falling prey to vices, which hinders the nation’s progress. “By fostering a love for sports among young people, we can help them avoid negative influences and grow into responsible citizens,” he said. He also urged the government and local gram panchayats to design programs that provide greater encouragement and infrastructure for sports activities.
The event was attended by former presidents K. Vishwanath Reddy, R. Krishnareddy, BJP leader Jayaprakash Reddy, public representative Manjunath, farmer leader Hareeshannayya, and others including Naveen and Madhu.
