Chikodi sets a record in sapling plantation campaign

Chikodi educational district has garnered attention by securing first place in the state by planting 1.18 lakh saplings under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign. The initiative was launched in primary and high schools across the country on World Environment Day, June 5, with the aim of increasing greenery. Schools across the state actively participated in this campaign for four months in support of the initiative. The Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign has been extended till Oct 30.Schools across the state have planted over 6 lakh saplings under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign. For the campaign, no specific plant species was designated, allowing children to plant a variety of plants, including flowers, fruits, medicinal plants, and forest plants.

A total of 28,354 schools participated, planting approximately 6 lakh saplings to date. Among the districts, Chikodi education district topped the state, followed by Mysuru, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, and Belagavi.Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam was started in primary and secondary schools. For four months, schools have actively participated in this campaign across the state and have been allowed to upload photos until Oct 30. There are 1,919 govt, 310 private, and 667 aided primary and secondary schools in Chikodi educational district.

As per the govt’s instructions, 1,18,700 saplings have been planted in all these schools by planting one tree by one child in the name of the mother. Children have planted more than 22,000 saplings each in Athani, Gokak, Hukkeri, and Chikkodi taluks. According to officials of the education department, the name of each child planting a sapling will be registered online. Each child will have to plant a sapling with their mother, take a photo, and upload it online. Saplings have been planted in school premises and public areas.

The saplings planted in this way will be watered and nurtured by children during their free time. Teachers are responsible for uploading the photos of the children. RS Seetaram, deputy director, school education and literacy, said the sapling planting campaign has also received good cooperation from parents. Meanwhile, schools in the Belagavi educational district have planted 50,561 saplings. There are 1,486 govt, 259 private, and 425 aided primary and high schools in Belagavi educational district.
