Deputy Commissioner CN Sridhar described Mahatma Gandhiji as a great man who brought independence to the country through non-violence and satyagraha.

He was speaking after inaugurating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shastriji on Thursday.
Gandhiji fought against poverty alleviation and untouchability. He fought against social problems like untouchability and oppression of foreigners in his own country. He said that truth and simplicity were his specialties.
He said that Mahatma Gandhiji, who fought for the independence of the country, told the society that even the most difficult problems in the countries can be solved through dialogue.
When Lal Bahadur Shastri was the Prime Minister after India got independence, there was a famine in the country and the people of the country were suffering from food shortage. Therefore, the people of the country should fast for one day in a week and Lal Bahadur Shastriji himself also fasted and found a solution to the problem, the Deputy Commissioner explained in detail.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the district level essay competition organized on the occasion of the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji.
The Deputy Commissioner felicitated the teachers Mallamma Hoogara, Kashibai Madi, HD Kuri, Pradeepa Chittaragi, Jayakumar, Rangappa Navara, and Husain Badshah Mangalore, who completed the social and educational survey being conducted in the state.
