Tariq Anwar Urges for Increased Security to Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi

Congress MP Tariq Anwar on Monday expressed deep concern after Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, received a death threat from Printu Mahadev, a former state president of the ABVP, the student wing of the RSS. Anwar said the matter was of great concern and called for enhanced security for Gandhi. Many Congress members have sacrificed their lives for the nation. He must be provided full protection, and strict action should be taken against anyone making such threats, he added.

Earlier, Congress general secretary K. C. Venugopal wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, warning that any delay in action would be seen as complicity and normalisation of violence against Rahul Gandhi.

Anwar also commented on India’s Asia Cup final win against Pakistan on Sunday. Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s habit of taking credit, he said, During Operation Sindoor, he made it about himself. Fortunately, he hasn’t yet claimed credit for this cricket victory. He praised Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav for donating his match fees to the Indian Army and victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. It’s a good step, and such gestures from cricketers and actors supporting our armed forces should be welcomed, Anwar said.

India won the final by five wickets in Dubai. The trophy presentation was delayed as the team refused to accept it from Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s Interior Minister and ACC President. Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha announced that his team would donate their match fees to civilians and children affected by India’s Operation Sindoor.

Anwar’s statements highlight concerns about political violence, the need for protective measures for leaders, and commendable humanitarian gestures in sports.
