KSRTC Justifies Fare Hike on Special Buses During Dasara

Bengaluru

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has clarified that fare hikes on special bus services during festivals and holidays have been in practice for the past two decades. The corporation stated that, as with every year, fares have been revised for special services operating during the Dasara season.

Between September 26 and October 8, special buses running on the Bengaluru–Mysuru route will charge an additional ₹20 on “Vayavya” services and ₹30 on “Prestige” services. KSRTC said this increase is necessary due to operational costs incurred during the festive period.

The corporation explained that these special services are usually one-way trips during peak festival days. On the return journey, buses often run with fewer passengers or empty, adding to operational expenses. Additionally, KSRTC mobilises buses from other divisions to meet the surge in passenger demand during Dasara, which further escalates costs.

The corporation said the fare revision ensures uninterrupted services and helps cover the higher expenses associated with special operations. KSRTC assured passengers that despite the hike, services will continue to prioritise safety, punctuality, and convenience for the thousands travelling during the festival season.
