Dharwad

The state govt has approved 15 new tourist spots for district. Earlier, 15 locations played an important role in promoting the nation’s economy and building its image, brand value, and identity. Temples, archaeological sites, lakes, and parks have been added. With 30 spots, the district is expected to draw more people from the NK region.

The tourism is attracting more tourists as there are many old temples located there. The old lakes such as Kelageri, Sadankeri, Unkal Lake, and other lakes will also be developed. To make more places attractive and convert them into tourist spots, a proposal was sent in the year 2023. The govt asked for a detailed report of places that will be developed. So far, a detailed report was submitted for approval. Now all 15 places were identified, but basic amenities and development of the spots have to be done. Tourism department Assistant Director Hemanth Desalli said that under the Tourism Policy 2024–29 introduced by the state government, district has officially received recognition for 15 new tourist destinations.

A construction of 29 Yatri Niwas buildings is going on. A guest house or lodging facility, often run by a state’s tourism department or a related corporation, Yatri Niwas provides affordable accommodation for pilgrims and tourists. Of these, 9 have been completed. Remaining works are being carried out. Under the Smart City project, Unkal and Tolankere Lake have been developed. Remaining spots have to be developed.

HDMC ward No. 39 Corporator Seema Mogalishettar said that Chandramouleshwar temple and Nrupatunga Betta have been recognised as tourist spots. The temple, located at Unkal, was built in the 12th century, and its Chalukya architecture, artworks, and sculptures inside and outside the temple are attracting visitors. Soon, the government should provide funds to develop these spots, she said.
