Former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas has been elected as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during its Annual General Meeting held at the board’s headquarters on Sunday.
The post had been vacant since Roger Binny stepped down in August 2025. Rajeev Shukla had been serving as interim president until the election. With this win, Manhas becomes only the third former cricketer, after Sourav Ganguly and Binny, to hold the top post.
Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh praised the development, calling it a proud moment for Doda district in Jammu & Kashmir, the home region of Manhas. Nominated by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, Manhas emerged as the leading candidate after key stakeholders in Indian cricket informally agreed on his name last week.
Manhas, 45, enjoyed a successful domestic career. He played 147 first-class matches, scoring 9,714 runs with 27 centuries and 49 half-centuries. His standout season came in 2007-08, when he scored 921 runs and helped Delhi lift the Ranji Trophy. In List A cricket, he added 4,126 runs from 130 games, alongside 75 career wickets.
In the Indian Premier League, Manhas represented Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors India, and Chennai Super Kings, playing 55 matches between 2008 and 2014. He also took up coaching roles in Jammu and Kashmir after retirement, gaining respect for his calm nature and focus on grassroots cricket.
Meanwhile, Rajeev Shukla and Devajit Saikia were re-elected as BCCI vice-president and secretary. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia became joint secretary, and Raghuram Bhat was chosen as treasurer.
