India Hosts History
New Delhi
India is all set to host the World Para Athletics Championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from September 27 to October 5. This is the first time India is organizing this big event, which will have over 2,200 para-athletes from 100 countries competing in 186 medal events.
The stadium, which hosted the Asian Games in 1982 and Commonwealth Games in 2010, has been made fully accessible for athletes with disabilities. Sminu Jindal, founder of Svayam and the official accessibility partner for the event, said this championship shows that making sports accessible for everyone is possible on a large scale.
Jindal also said that Svayam wants India to host future Olympics and other big global sports events with a focus on inclusion and accessibility. Para-athlete Simran Sharma, who won bronze at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, praised the accessible facilities, saying they help athletes perform better and feel comfortable.
Svayam carried out accessibility checks at hotels and venues and is helping with special transport for the athletes. They have also trained drivers, police, volunteers, and reporters to support the para-athletes properly.
This championship marks a big step for India to be seen as a leader in inclusive sports worldwide.
