Owaisi slams RJD over alliance snub

Kishanganj

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday criticised RJD leaders Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav for ignoring AIMIM’s requests for an alliance ahead of the Bihar assembly elections. Speaking at a rally in Kishanganj, a Muslim-majority district, Owaisi said his party sought only six seats in the I.N.D.I.A. bloc and did not demand any ministerial positions, insisting instead on being treated as equals.

Owaisi highlighted the lack of dedicated Muslim leadership in Bihar, pointing out that most communities have their own leaders, while Muslims remain politically unrepresented. “When Tejashwi can aspire to be chief minister, why can’t the youth of Seemanchal become leaders?” he asked.

He added that AIMIM’s move was aimed at avoiding accusations of helping the BJP and said the RJD’s indifference exposes who actually supports the BJP. AIMIM had previously contested 20 seats, winning five, though most MLAs later joined the RJD. Owaisi’s four-day Seemanchal Nyay Yatra will continue with public meetings in Araria, highlighting the region’s demand for political representation.
