Actor Sonu Sood appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi on Wednesday for questioning in a money-laundering case linked to the online betting app ‘1xBet.’ The ED is investigating the app for allegedly defrauding people of crores of rupees and evading taxes. Sonu Sood joined a growing list of celebrities questioned in the probe, which has already included cricketers such as Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, and Robin Uthappa, along with several social media influencers.
The agency is examining how celebrities were approached by the company, payment methods, and whether they were aware that online betting is illegal in India. Officials have asked the celebrities to provide contracts, emails, and other documents related to their involvement. The ED is also checking whether earnings received could be classified as “proceeds of crime” under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), which could lead to seizure of assets and further legal action. More celebrities are expected to be summoned in the coming days.
