Manikandan, S J Suryah, Sai Pallavi win Kalaimamani

The Tamil Nadu government has announced the winners of its prestigious Kalaimamani Awards for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023, recognizing outstanding contributions to arts, literature, and culture. The Kalaimamani is the state’s highest civilian honour in these fields.

For 2021, the list included actor S J Suryah, actress Sai Pallavi, director Lingusamy, and stunt choreographer Super Subbarayan among 30 recipients. In 2022, actors Vikram Prabhu and lyricist Viveka were part of the 30 awardees.

This year, 2023, the awards celebrate actor Manikandan, known for his string of recent hits; actor George Maryan, praised for his role in the blockbuster Dragon; celebrated music director Anirudh; and popular singer Shwetha Mohan. Dance choreographer Sandy, who has also appeared in Telugu and Malayalam hits like Kishkindhapuri and Lokah, is among the winners as well.

Director Lingusamy, who received the award for 2021, shared his joy and gratitude in a video message. He recalled an essay by the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, stating that recipients should accept the award like the kiss of a mother. Lingusamy thanked all the actors, technicians, friends, and family who supported him throughout his career. He added, Seeing their happiness inspires me to do more. I am forever indebted to my gurus, my master Raji, and producer R B Choudhary, who gave me my first break.

The Kalaimamani Awards continue to honour exceptional talent across cinema, music, literature, and the performing arts, celebrating those who shape and enrich Tamil Nadu’s cultural heritage.
