Germany invites skilled Indians amid H1B issues

US H-1B hike boosts Germany’s appeal for skilled Indians

New Delhi

German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, on Wednesday invited skilled Indian professionals to explore work opportunities in Germany, emphasizing the country’s stable and predictable migration policies. He highlighted that Germany offers strong career prospects in IT, management, science, and technology. “Indians are among the top earners in Germany, often earning more than the average German. This reflects their significant contribution to our society and economy,” he said.

Ackermann contrasted Germany’s approach with the US, noting that German immigration rules are reliable and transparent. “Our migration policy is like a German car: modern, dependable, and predictable. Highly skilled Indians are always welcome,” he added, encouraging interested professionals to explore the opportunities available in Germany.

The remarks come amid growing challenges for Indian workers in the US. A recent report by Systematix Research highlighted that the H-1B visa fee hike to USD 100,000 under the Trump administration has increased protectionist barriers against India, threatening its USD 190 billion services export industry. The move targets the IT sector, extending protectionist measures beyond trade deficits. The White House justified the changes, citing concerns that the H-1B program has suppressed wages and displaced American workers, noting that foreign STEM employment in the US has more than doubled from 2000 to 2019 while overall STEM employment grew far slower.

Ackermann’s message positions Germany as a stable and welcoming alternative for highly skilled Indian professionals seeking international opportunities without the uncertainties currently affecting US visas.
