City Sets November Deadline to Fix Road Potholes

Bengaluru sets a November deadline to repair city roads amid growing pothole crisis, affecting traffic and businesses.

The worsening pothole situation in Bengaluru has become a major public concern, drawing criticism from citizens and IT professionals alike. Roads across the city have developed extensive damage, affecting traffic flow and raising safety concerns, especially in busy commercial and residential areas.

Responding to the issue, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that contractors have been given a final deadline to repair the potholes by November. “Our goal is a clean Bengaluru and smooth traffic. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will ensure that all potholes are filled at the earliest,” he assured in a post on social media platform X.

Shivakumar highlighted that black-topping work is currently underway on 182 roads, covering 349 km, at a cost of ₹694 crore. Contractors have been instructed to ensure proper drainage and eliminate potholes during the resurfacing process. Additionally, 178 roads spanning 401 km that were already deemed defect-free are being monitored closely, with strict instructions to repair any surface damage immediately.

The issue has also triggered calls from the private sector for improved infrastructure. Mohandas Pai and Kiran Majundar Shah, prominent industrialists, stressed the government’s intervention for essential civic improvements, citing companies relocating offices from Outer Ring Road due to poor road conditions.

Pai further described the potholes as a “symbol of administrative failure,” urging swift corrective action to prevent further disruption. With the November deadline set, the city anticipates significant improvements in road safety and traffic flow in the coming months.
