Jaismine Lamboria wins gold at World Boxing Championships

Liverpool

India’s Jaismine Lamboria struck gold at the 2025 World Boxing Championships, defeating Poland’s Szermeta Julia 4-1 in the women’s 57kg category final on late Saturday night. It marked a career-defining moment for the Indian boxer, who bounced back strongly after her early exit at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Szermeta, the Olympic silver medallist, began aggressively, cheered loudly by Polish fans in Liverpool. But Jaismine adjusted quickly, using her superior height and reach to dominate from the second round. She controlled the tempo and landed clean punches, sealing a commanding 4-1 decision to claim her first world title.

“This feeling can’t be expressed. I’m so happy to be a world champion. After my Paris 2024 setback, I worked hard on my technique and mindset. This medal is the result of a year of consistent effort,” Jaismine told Olympics.com.

India also earned medals in other categories. In the women’s 80kg+ division, Nupur won silver after losing to Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska. Despite giving up height, Kaczmarska fought bravely in close range and snatched a 3-2 split decision with a late decisive blow, delighting home supporters.

Meanwhile, India’s Pooja Rani secured bronze in the women’s 80kg after losing her semifinal. Facing Britain’s Emily Asquith, the more experienced Indian was outclassed as Asquith delivered a striking masterclass to win 4-1 and reach the final.

Overall, India’s performance brought pride with one gold, one silver, and one bronze. Jaismine’s triumph, especially, signaled the rise of a confident new champion on the world stage, lifting the spirit of Indian boxing.
