Geo-tagging for Socio-Economic Survey to Finish in 4 Days

Belagavi

In support of the State Backward Classes Commission’s social and educational survey, geo-tagging of households using electricity meter data is progressing rapidly in Belagavi district. The commission has decided to geo-tag all 10.4 lakh homes to ensure no family is left out. According to HESCOM officials, the geo-tagging process is expected to be completed within the next four days. The survey is scheduled to be conducted between September 22 and October 7.

In the first phase, electricity meter readers are visiting homes to collect household information linked to RR numbers. To ensure comprehensive coverage, about 9 lakh homes have already been geo-tagged and labeled with stickers. This work is expected to conclude by the second week of September. The geo-tagging system, tied to electricity meter data, will assist in location-based data collection and billing.

A unique identification number is assigned to each household, with stickers affixed to homes. The survey ID space is left blank to be filled in by census staff, making it easier to identify homes during the survey.

Praveenkumar Chikkade, Superintendent Engineer of HESCOM, stated that 90% of the geo-tagging work has been completed. Once HESCOM finishes its part, the remaining tasks will be undertaken by the Social Welfare and Backward Classes departments, he added.
