Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar assured that the state government, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and supported by cabinet colleagues, highly values teachers and is committed to addressing their concerns.
She made the remarks after inaugurating the Taluk-level Teachers’ Day celebration, Pratibha Karanji, and Kalotsava, organised by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, and Taluk Panchayat at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday.
The Minister noted that education-related matters receive serious and constructive attention in every cabinet meeting. She added that if society has reached this level of progress, second only to parents, teachers deserve much of the credit.
In response to MLC Sabanna Talawar’s demand for a Guru Bhavan, Hebbalkar confirmed that she had committed to arranging land before September 5 and announced that 17 guntas of land within city limits had been approved for the project.
Reflecting on her school days, she recalled how her physical education teacher, Deshpande Sir, inspired her beyond sports by encouraging her to write and deliver speeches during Independence Day celebrations—a formative experience in her life.
She also emphasized that women’s progress into mainstream society has been possible with the support of men, and their rise in a male-dominated society is a source of pride.
“Teachers are the architects of our children’s future. India’s development in administration, science, and national growth is possible only because of the knowledge imparted by teachers. Alongside farmers and soldiers, teachers are the backbone of the nation,” Hebbalkar said, applauding their role in shaping the country.
