For the academic year 2025-26, seven government schools in the district have been upgraded to high schools. The education department has approved the commencement of classes 9 and 10 in these newly sanctioned schools, responding to strong demands from parents and local communities for better access to secondary education. Currently, 119 government high schools operate in the district. The upgraded schools will be transformed into model institutions offering high-quality education and co-curricular activities, supported by smart classrooms and enhanced infrastructure. These upgrades will reduce the need for students to travel to private or distant schools for high school education.
SM Hudedamani, Deputy Project Coordinator of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, confirmed that schools were selected based on criteria such as student strength, absence of nearby high schools, and availability of land for building construction. Funding will be provided to support their development.
Gangadhar Kagi, in-charge headmaster of Bhogenagarakoppa Government School, shared that the school, established in 1942 with 420 students up to class 8, is set to begin classes 9 and 10 shortly. Around 30 students are ready to enroll, and villagers have donated two acres of land for the new high school building, pending fund approval.
