The government-run PM SHRI school in Amaragol, Hubballi, was awarded the Best PM SHRI School for 2025-26 by Samagra Shikshana Karnataka (SSK). The school was recognised for its exceptional performance, dedication, and commitment to quality education, offering modern facilities and a nurturing learning environment. Established in 1865, the school underwent a major transformation into a hi-tech model institution under the Union government’s PM SHRI scheme. Previously lacking infrastructure, the school now boasts digital learning tools, sports equipment, and desktops. It also introduced a UKG class last year, which is running at full strength.

Currently, 446 students are enrolled, benefiting from the enhanced facilities. The revamped school has caught the attention of the local community. The award was presented by MLA Mahesh Tenginakai in Dharwad.

Basavaraj Bommannawadi, in-charge headmaster, said that the 160-year-old school is under a 5-year plan, with the Union government providing funds for its development. The scheme also encourages sports by providing facilities for table tennis, volleyball, basketball, kho-kho, and kabaddi. Children from nearby areas like Navanagar and Gamanagatti are enrolled and enjoying all facilities.

Block Educational Officer UY Bommakkanavar said the state SSK chose this school for the best school award, as it has undergone transformation with many facilities benefiting students.

Assistant teacher BB Sullad expressed happiness about the award, saying more work will be done annually, as the scheme approved by the Cabinet on September 7, 2022, continues to benefit all children in the school.
