In the 2025 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) released by Union HRD Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi, Kuvempu University has once again drawn national attention by earning a place in the 51–100 rank band among government universities. It ranks third among traditional universities in the state.
Over 4,100 institutions across the country participated in this year’s ranking. Within government universities, Mysore University secured 20th position, Bangalore University 26th, Bangalore Agricultural University 37th, and Visvesvaraya Technological University 50th. NIRF evaluates universities annually across disciplines including engineering, management, medicine, architecture, and law.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Sharath Ananthamurthy said that despite challenges in the education sector, the university faculty has shown strong academic commitment through quality research, publications, and extension activities, and efforts will continue to improve rankings further.
The NIRF rankings are based on five key criteria: teaching and learning, resource availability, research and professional activities, employment outcomes, higher education results and social engagement, and overall perception by staff, researchers, and the public.
