Bengaluru police charge 23 landlords over rentals

The Bengaluru North East Division police have registered cases against 23 house owners for renting their properties to foreign nationals without obtaining the mandatory documents. The action comes after it was found that several foreigners continued to reside in the city even after the expiry of their visas.

According to police, cases have been filed under the Registration of Foreigners Act for failing to submit the required details and C-Forms. Violations were recorded across multiple police station limits: one case each in Amruthahalli, Bagalur, Sampigehalli, and Vidyaranyapura, two each in Chikkajala and Kodigehalli, three in Yelahanka Newtown, five in Kothanur, and seven in Yelahanka.

As per the Act, landlords must upload tenant details, including passport and visa information, to the IndianFRRO portal within 24 hours and secure a C-Form from the FRRO, which must then be submitted to the local police. Failure to comply can invite legal action. Police records show that till March 2025, as many as 70 such cases have been registered in Bengaluru. Of these, 42 are currently under trial, 26 remain under investigation, and one conviction has been secured at Bandepalya police station.

Earlier in March, CCB police arrested two foreign nationals—an Argentine and a Brazilian—who had overstayed their visas while residing in Hebbal’s Ananda Nagar for modeling assignments. A case was also filed against their landlord and the agency representative for failing to report their stay or submit the C-Form. Authorities have urged property owners to strictly follow guidelines to avoid prosecution.
