New Delhi
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday appreciated Germany’s support for India’s fight against terrorism, noting that German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has clearly backed India’s right to defend its people from terror attacks. Speaking after their meeting in New Delhi, Jaishankar recalled that Germany had warmly received India’s parliamentary delegation in June after Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Jaishankar said both countries held detailed talks covering political cooperation, defence and security, economy, technology, climate, education, and people-to-people ties. He highlighted Germany’s role in the Tarang Shakti air exercises and naval visits to Goa, stressing that such engagements will continue and expand. He also welcomed smoother defence clearances and growing industry collaboration between the two nations.
The EAM further said that discussions touched upon India-EU relations, multilateral issues, and regional concerns including Ukraine, West Asia, and the Indo-Pacific. He expressed confidence in Wadephul’s commitment to strengthening the India-Germany strategic partnership.
On X, Jaishankar shared that the two sides explored cooperation in semiconductors, digital technologies, mobility, and industry linkages, while also pushing for faster progress on the India-EU Free Trade Agreement. He reaffirmed India’s appreciation for Germany’s strong advocacy of closer ties.
Overall, Jaishankar underlined that India highly values Germany’s understanding of its security challenges, particularly the need to act firmly against terrorism, while also strengthening broader cooperation in multiple sectors.
