Indian Boxers Ready for Global Stage
New Delhi
India is set to make a powerful statement at the inaugural World Boxing Championships 2025, with 20 of its top pugilists preparing to take on elite opponents from across the globe. The tournament, organized by World Boxing, the newly established global governing body for the sport, will be held at the M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool, from September 4 to 14.
Led by Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg) and two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen (51 kg), the Indian squad enters the championship with strong momentum, riding high on an impressive tally of 17 medals from the World Boxing Cups in Brazil and Kazakhstan earlier this year. In Brazil, India secured six medals, including a gold from Hitesh and a silver from Abhinash Jamwal, while the Kazakhstan event yielded 11 medals, with Nupur Sheoran clinching gold in the heavyweight division.
Our preparation in Sheffield has been nothing short of exceptional, said Dharmendra Singh Yadav, coach of the men’s team. This is a powerful mix of experienced medalists and young, hungry talents ready to shine.
Women’s coach Dr. Chandralal echoed the optimism, praising the squad’s dedication and spirit: We are ready to showcase the true fighting spirit of Indian women’s boxing.
The squad boasts depth across weight classes, featuring stars like Pooja Rani (80 kg), Minakshi (48 kg), Sakshi (54 kg), and Jaismine (57 kg), along with emerging male talents such as Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (50 kg), Sachin (60 kg), and Narender (90+ kg).
Officials believe the Liverpool championships will mark a new chapter for Indian boxing, potentially cementing its place among the sport’s global powerhouses.
