The 2025 monsoon has claimed 341 lives in Himachal Pradesh, including 182 in rain-related incidents and 159 in road accidents, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reported. Since June 20, losses have crossed Rs 3.5 lakh crore, with officials describing the devastation as “unprecedented.”
Fatalities include 23 deaths in landslides, 17 in cloudbursts, 9 in flash floods, 33 in drowning, 14 in electrocution, and 14 from falls in steep terrain. Overall, 389 people have been injured, 41 remain missing, and more than 27,000 livestock and poultry have perished.
Infrastructure has been severely hit: 387 homes destroyed, over 1,500 partially damaged, and massive losses reported in roads, bridges, water supply, and power assets. Mandi, Kangra, and Chamba recorded the highest tolls.
Over 4,000 hectares of farmland and horticulture plots have been affected. Authorities warn of further landslides and urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable zones.
