Bandeppa Kashempur Seeks ₹25,000 Per Acre Compensation

Bidar

Several days of continuous rainfall have left farmlands in Bidar district heavily waterlogged, causing large-scale crop destruction. Former minister and JD(S) leader Bandeppa Kashempur has strongly appealed to the state government to provide immediate relief of at least ₹25,000 per acre to farmers hit by the calamity.

Kashempur toured rain-affected villages in Bidar South constituency, including Budhera, Mallik Marjapur, Kashempur P, and surrounding areas, along with officials from the Agriculture Department. During his visit, he observed that overflowing streams and lakes had completely submerged agricultural fields. Crops such as soybean, pigeon pea, sugarcane, black gram, and green gram, along with several horticultural plantations, were either damaged beyond repair or washed away.

Kashempur highlighted that farmland near the national highway was so deeply flooded that the standing crops were no longer visible, leaving farmers devastated. Stressing the urgent need for government intervention, he demanded that immediate compensation be released to restore farmers’ confidence.

He also pressed agriculture and revenue officials to jointly survey the affected areas without delay and submit an accurate report recommending higher compensation. At the same time, crop insurance companies were urged to clear claims at the earliest to ensure timely financial support.

The livelihoods of our farmers depend entirely on agriculture. With this level of destruction, they are staring at an uncertain future. I will write to the Chief Minister, requesting him to announce urgent relief measures. This is the only way to bring hope back to our farmers, Kashempur said.

Joint Agriculture Director Devika R. Rani, Deputy Director M.A.K. Ansari, Agriculture Officers Shatrujna, Sangamesh, and Vijaykumar, along with several local farmers, accompanied him during the inspection.
