District-Level Dasara Games Kick Off in Chitradurga

The district-level Dasara Games and National Sports Day celebrations began in Chitradurga, with athletes competing across multiple sports and winners advancing to state-level competitions.

The National Sports Day celebrations and the district-level Dasara Games were inaugurated on Friday at the Veeravanite Onake Obavva District Stadium. The event was organized collaboratively by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Karnataka Sports Authority, and other local sports organizations.

The games were inaugurated by Assistant Director Suchetha M. Nelavigi of the Youth Empowerment and Sports Department. She highlighted that the taluk-level Dasara Games had already concluded successfully, and the winners from those events have now advanced to the district level. Victors at this stage will move on to division-level competitions, eventually qualifying for the state-level Dasara Games, scheduled at Chamundi Vihara Stadium in Mysore from September 22 to 25.

Athletes, both male and female, competed in a wide range of sports, including athletics, volleyball, kho kho, kabaddi, basketball, wrestling, badminton, hockey, handball, table tennis, throwball, and ball badminton. The event also featured floral tributes to Major Dhyan Chand in honor of National Sports Day, while volleyball coach Mohammed Muhibullah administered the athlete’s oath.

Notable attendees included Hosadurga Assistant Director Mahantesh, retired physical education officers Jayanna and A. Neelkanthachar, physical education teacher Salma, coaches Sadhik, and several athletes.

So far, 975 male and 234 female athletes have registered online for the district-level Dasara Games. Team registrations include 354 from Challakere, 714 from Chitradurga, 470 from Hosadurga, 171 from Hiriyur, 218 from Holalkere, and 157 from Molakalmuru. Registration is ongoing, and over 2,800 teams are expected to participate, according to Assistant Director Suchetha M. Nelavigi.
