BBMP chief reviews Yelahanka Airport connectivity works

Stormwater Drain Buffer Road Project Gets Priority in Yelahanka Zone Inspection

In a move aimed at improving road infrastructure and easing connectivity to the Kempegowda International Airport, BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, IAS, carried out an inspection of various locations in the Yelahanka Zone on Tuesday morning.

During the visit, Rao emphasized that the upcoming road project connecting the city to the international airport will pass through Yelahanka Zone. He instructed officials to take necessary steps to ensure smooth execution and also directed them to work on developing alternative connecting roads to reduce traffic pressure on the main stretch.

Highlighting the importance of tackling bottlenecks in the zone, Rao specifically ordered that the proposed road in the buffer zone of the storm water drain—stretching from Jakkur Road to the National Highway—be taken up on priority. The project, according to him, is crucial to strengthen arterial links and to provide residents and commuters with quicker access to major routes.

The Chief Commissioner also urged the engineering teams to speed up preliminary surveys and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards while implementing the works. “Connectivity to the airport is a lifeline for Bengaluru’s growth. We must take every step to improve it without delay,” he is reported to have said during the inspection. The inspection was attended by Zonal Commissioner Karigowda, Joint Commissioner of Yelahanka, and other senior officials. The BBMP reiterated that these measures are part of its larger commitment to upgrade urban mobility infrastructure across Bengaluru.
