Asha Sarath on Kamal Haasan, Drishyam legacy, part 3

Asha Sarath, widely recognized for her powerful performance as a police officer in Drishyam and its remakes, has expressed deep gratitude to director Jeethu Joseph for trusting her with the role that transformed her career. She recalled how she was initially unsure when offered the character, expecting to play a mother instead. When I heard it was a negative role, I went silent for a few minutes. But the faith Jeethu sir and Mohanlal sir showed in me gave me the courage to accept it, she shared.

She went on to reprise the same character in the Tamil remake Papanasam, opposite Kamal Haasan, and also in the Kannada version. Looking back, she described working with Kamal Haasan as a dream fulfilled. I am a Bharatanatyam dancer first, and Kamal sir has always been someone I admired like a fan. Acting with him was truly special, she said. She also remembered Mohanlal’s reassuring words before she started filming: Don’t be afraid, go boldly.

Asha revealed that after her marriage, opportunities often came sporadically, but it was her husband’s unwavering support that allowed her to chase her artistic ambitions. The partner you choose matters a lot in your journey, she added, acknowledging his encouragement.

Confirming that Drishyam 3 is in the pipeline, Asha said she is excited to return to the iconic franchise. Beyond that, she will also be seen in a new film with Jayaram and Kalidas Jayaram. Sharing her excitement, she mentioned being part of an upcoming project directed by Mahesh Narayanan, where she will act alongside legends Mammootty, Mohanlal, and Suresh Gopi—calling it one of the most awaited films in Malayalam cinema.
