Authorities Turn Blind Eye To Dumping Of Plastic Waste And Illegal Construction

Must read

Despite knowledge of the dumping of plastic waste and the construction of a building near Vibhutipur Lake, authorities are reportedly ignoring the issue. It has come to light that a building is being constructed in close proximity to the lake, but the authorities have not taken any action. Lake activists have alleged that the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) is aware of the situation but has turned a blind eye. The residents and activists of the Vibhutipur Lake Welfare Development Association staged a protest at the lake, demanding the immediate demolition of the illegal building. They claim that Sunita and her husband, identified as Alex, have constructed a building that violates the buffer zone and has broken the fence. The pillars of the building have reached up to the lintel level. Initially, when the concerned lake officer of Mahadevpur zone was informed about the issue, he allegedly responded by saying, Let them build it themselves. However, a volunteer from the association mentioned that another official stated that the BBMP had initiated an encroachment clearance operation and would remove the building.
Chief Engineer Vijayakumar Haridas, when informed about the matter, stated that he had no information about the issue but assured that he would instruct the concerned engineer to address the encroachment on the lake. The dumping of plastic waste into the Vibhutipur Lake and the construction of an illegal building nearby are serious environmental concerns that require immediate attention from the authorities to protect the lake and its ecosystem.
