Bangalore-Mysore Expressway; Ban On Bike And Auto Traffic From July

Must read

Two-wheelers and three-wheelers, as well as agricultural vehicles like tractors and bicycles will not be allowed to enter the Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway from mid-July. Officials of the National Highways Authority of India told The New Indian Express that the rule will come into effect in the next 10-15 days and they are waiting for an official notification in this regard. The 119-km highway, which will help commuters reach Mysore from Bengaluru in just 90 minutes, was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March. Since then it has been in the news for one reason or another. More than 150 people have lost their lives on the 6-10 lane ex-pressway, which was opened to traffic last October. Ever since the express highway opened for traffic, there have been discussions to ban two-wheelers and three-wheelers, as they are said to pose a danger to vehicles allowed to run at a speed of 120 kmph. Earlier, there was a plan to allow superbikes, however, it was said that they too would be banned as officials said that most of them do not follow lane discipline and travel at prohibited high speeds. Two-wheelers and three-wheelers will be banned on the Delhi-Meerut and Delhi-Vadodara Expressways, on the Bangalore-Mysore Expressway. After the notification, the ban will be implemented immediately, said Vivek Jaiswal, regional officer of the National Highways Authority of Bangalore. All the above processes are expected to be completed within 10-15 days.
