The Election Commission has ordered the transfer of 10 police officers, including the deputy commissioner of police, for strict enforcement of the code of conduct and fair elections for the May 10 assembly polls, Election Commission sources said. DCP (North) Bangalore, Yeshwantpur and ACP Bangalore and four police inspectors one each from Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Yeshwantpur, Nandini Layout Police Station and Rajagopal Nagar Police Station have been transferred. Sources said the transferred officers were deputed at the behest of a state minister and their transfer was expected to help in strict enforcement of the code of conduct and conduct of fair elections for the May 10 polls. No complaint has been lodged against this. Hence, the commission has taken this decision to conduct the election smoothly, said an official. Following clashes between BJP and Congress workers in Surpur in Yadgiri district earlier this month, the EC ordered the transfer of the local DSP and a circle inspector for improper handling of the situation.
