Belagavi: Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil has said that all our teams are working well to reduce the money power in this year’s assembly elections and create an atmosphere where free and transparent elections can be held.
In all the 18 Assembly constituencies in the district, flying squads, check posts, video surveillance teams are working under the leadership of police commissioner and SP. There is also the CEO of the Zilla Panchayat and the MCC head. As many as 24 inter-state check posts have been set up and personnel from police department, revenue department, rural development and excise department have been deployed. He said forest department personnel will also be deployed as soon as the sun subsides a bit.
CCTV cameras have been installed at all check posts. We have set up a control room in the offices of deputy commissioner, SP and police commissioner. The staff is working in three shifts 24/7. Every day at 10 a.m., we send the report of 62 check posts to the Election Commission for the day’s confiscation. Similarly, political parties are holding meetings with permission. We are also sending an account of its expenditure to the Election Commission, district collector Nitesh Patil said.
In a separate case, Rs 11,49,000 was seized from a checkpost near Hitni cross in Hukkeri taluk of the district. The money has been seized. Kushal Auja was taking him in a car. It is learnt that the money was being transported from Sawantwadi to Kolhapur without any documents. A case has been registered at Sankeshwar police station in this regard.
