Minister M.B. Patil urged corrections in caste records and called for sensitivity in organizing India-Pakistan cricket matches.

Minister M.B. Patil stated that they had raised concerns with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding the inclusion of “Kuruba Christian” and “Lingayat Christian” in the caste column of official records.
Patil explained that the issue was discussed during a cabinet meeting. “We asked the Chief Minister why the caste column lists ‘Christian Lingayat’ and ‘Christian Kuruba’ but does not include ‘Muslim Christian.’ We also suggested necessary changes if required to ensure clarity and fairness,” he said.
Patil further emphasized the importance of accurate representation in official documents, noting that caste classification affects social and administrative policies. He stressed that any inconsistencies should be corrected to avoid confusion among communities.
On a different matter, Patil criticized the India-Pakistan cricket match, stating that such matches should not be organized. He pointed out the past incidents of violence against innocent people and questioned the impact of these games on families affected by such tragedies. “Holding matches with Pakistan is inappropriate and insensitive to the families who have suffered. Their pain should be considered before arranging such events,” he added.
Through his statements, Patil highlighted the need for both accurate record-keeping in caste surveys and careful consideration of national sentiments in sporting events, emphasizing fairness, sensitivity, and responsibility in government actions.
Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal sharply criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, calling his attempt to show minority Muslims as more numerous in the state “a drama.” Yatnal pointed out that the caste census falls under central government authority, and the state has no right to conduct it. He claimed Siddaramaiah’s approach misleads the public, suggesting Lingayats and Vokkaligas are fewer while minority Muslims are more. Yatnal also alleged earlier caste classifications like “Christian Kuruba” and “Christian Lingayat” were introduced under Sonia Gandhi to influence demographics.
