In two separate incidents in the district, two students collapsed and died at school.
Akshara, a student of class 8 at Machenahalli Deaf and Mute School in Bhadravati taluk, collapsed in the school. The student was immediately taken to the nearby NU Hospital. The doctors who examined her said that Akshara died on the way.
Akshara, from Annappagere village in Shikaripura taluk, was admitted to a school in Machenahalli on August 7. She had been vomiting and having diarrhea since the night of August 9. On August 10 morning, when she went to school, she suddenly collapsed. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Newtown police station in Bhadravati, the police said.
In another case, a student who was watching a chess game at school suddenly collapsed and died. The deceased student is JK Vinay (15), who was studying in class 10 at the Government High School in Thamadihalli village in Shivamogga taluk.
Vinay was sitting in the school, watching other students playing chess with interest. At this time, he suddenly collapsed. He was immediately taken to the Ayanur Primary Health Center. However, since the student’s condition was serious, he was referred to Meggan Hospital in Shivamogga for further treatment, according to the school teachers.
However, Megan’s doctors confirmed that the student had died upon reaching the hospital.
The deceased Vinay was originally from Shikaripura and was studying at his grandfather’s house in Thamadihalli near Ayanur. Hearing the news of his son’s sudden death, his parents and relatives rushed to Meggan Hospital in shock. His parents have expressed serious doubts about the sudden collapse and death of a normal student.
Police said that a case has been registered in this regard under the jurisdiction of Kunsi police station and an investigation is underway.
