The Indian government has extended key tenures for officials like Saurabh Garg and Ravi Agrawal, while promoting new leadership within the CBI to ensure stability.

The Indian government has announced several significant personnel updates, focusing on leadership continuity within key ministries. In a series of high-level decisions, officials have received extensions to their current tenures to maintain stability across important administrative departments.
Saurabh Garg, the Secretary for the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, will remain in his role for an additional year. A retired 1991-batch IAS officer, his contract now runs until July 31, 2027. He will also continue leading the National Statistical Commission. Similarly, the government has extended the tenure of CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal. The 1988-batch IRS officer will serve on a contract basis for six more months, keeping him in his position until December 31, 2026.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) also saw major promotions as the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet elevated two Deputy Inspector Generals to the rank of Joint Directors. Atul Kumar Thakur and Pankaj Kumar Singh, both 2008-batch IPS officers, were promoted to these key investigative roles, with tenures spanning through late 2028.
Additional updates include the appointment of Rahul Kumar as Officer on Special Duty to the Minister of State for Rural Development. Meanwhile, other officials, such as Krishna Kumar Tiwari and Sanap Bajirao Ramnath, received extensions on their ongoing central deputations. These strategic moves reflect the government’s aim to balance experienced leadership with fresh promotions, ensuring that vital administrative functions continue running smoothly as the nation navigates its various ongoing developmental and fiscal responsibilities.
