Union Minister Nitin Gadkari called for stronger cooperation among BRICS nations to create sustainable, resilient and modern transport systems during the third BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting held in India. He said joint efforts among member countries can shape the future of global mobility through innovation, partnership and shared responsibility.
Speaking at the event, Gadkari highlighted India’s progress in roads, railways, maritime infrastructure and aviation. He said India has developed the world’s second-largest road network and expanded expressways and multimodal connectivity across regions. Projects such as economic corridors, tunnels and greenfield expressways show the country’s focus on combining development with environmental protection and technological advancement. He also praised the Hybrid Annuity Model for attracting private investment in infrastructure projects. Gadkari explained that Indian railways are undergoing major modernisation through electrification, Vande Bharat services and high-speed rail development. He also mentioned digital maritime initiatives and green shipping efforts aimed at improving logistics efficiency and connectivity.
Emphasising green mobility, the minister highlighted electric buses, cleaner fuels and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan as key steps for integrated transport planning. He said safety remains a priority and referred to schemes supporting accident victims and eco-friendly construction methods using recycled materials. Gadkari urged BRICS members to cooperate on challenges including infrastructure funding, emissions, congestion and last-mile connectivity. He called for greater knowledge sharing, research and technology partnerships in areas such as electric mobility, green hydrogen and digital transport systems.
He expressed confidence that the meeting would strengthen cooperation among emerging economies and create practical solutions for future transport needs. The minister said BRICS countries can build cleaner, safer and smarter systems by working together and sharing experiences. He added that sustainable infrastructure will support economic growth and improve lives worldwide. The meeting reflected India’s commitment to inclusive development and international cooperation in transportation. As global mobility demands continue changing, BRICS nations are expected to play an important role in creating solutions that balance progress, environment and public needs. Through collaboration and innovation, the countries aim to build a stronger and more connected future.
