EPFO completes CITES database migration, enabling faster claims, automated services, and seamless access for millions of provident fund members nationwide.
New Delhi
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has completed the migration of its entire member records database to a new centralised national database under the Centralised IT Enabled Services (CITES) Project, aimed at modernising service delivery through automation and rule-based processing.
The initiative is expected to improve operational efficiency, enhance transparency, and provide faster, citizen-centric services to millions of EPFO members. Under the new system, service requests will no longer remain linked to a specific regional office and can be processed from any authorised location across India.
The CITES Project introduces several features, including faster annual interest credit, easier access to account information, quicker claim settlements, automatic provident fund transfers after job changes, and simplified pension-related services.
For the financial year 2025-26, EPFO’s annual interest rate of 8.25 percent will be automatically processed for around 34 crore member accounts involving an estimated amount of over Rs 1.44 lakh crore. After verification by field authorities, members will be able to view the interest credit in their passbooks by July 15. Earlier, such credits often took several months after the interest rate announcement.
The new unified digital interface will allow members to access their membership details, provident fund balances, claim status, pensionable service records, and benefits through a single platform. Previously, member information was spread across multiple systems.
EPFO said automated pre-validation of claims will identify errors and missing information before processing, reducing rejection rates and improving first-time approval chances. The auto-settlement limit for fully KYC-linked advance claims has also been increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
The centralised payment system will enable faster electronic settlements directly into members’ bank accounts on the day of approval. Members changing jobs will also benefit from automatic transfer of Aadhaar-linked Universal Account Number (UAN) accounts without submitting separate transfer applications.
Pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) will now be able to access services from any PF office and submit life certificates more conveniently through the centralised system.
