The agriculture department is urging coastal Karnataka farmers to join the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, offering essential financial protection against monsoon-related crop failure. With rains being unpredictable, officials emphasize that this scheme helps growers recover losses. In Dakshina Kannada, the premium is ₹611.91 per acre. If sowing fails across 75% of a notified area due to lack of rain, farmers receive 50% of the insured sum immediately. Registration remains open until August 14 at local banks or service centers. Officials confirmed that adequate seeds and fertilizers are currently available to support all regional planting targets.
