District Commissioner P.N. Ravindra inaugurated the district-level Dasara Sports Meet at Sir M. Vishweshwaraya District Stadium, emphasizing the importance of nurturing talent alongside competitive spirit in sports and cultural activities. Speaking at the event, organized jointly by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, School Education Department, and District Physical Education Association, he encouraged students to engage in daily sports and cultural pursuits to develop their skills and achieve excellence.
Highlighting the historic significance of sports competitions for mental and physical development, Ravindra congratulated participants who had excelled at the taluk-level Dasara Sports Meet and urged them to represent the district with pride at state, national, and international events. He stressed that schools should identify and nurture children’s physical talents, provide adequate sports equipment, and guide students to achieve holistic development. Government support and funding for sports initiatives must be utilized effectively, he added, reminding students to accept victories and defeats with equanimity.
Ravindra noted that participation in sports not only enhances physical fitness but also sharpens mental acuity and improves daily performance. He urged athletes to strive for top positions in state-level competitions, bringing honor to the district.
The event featured athletics, volleyball, kho-kho, kabaddi, football, basketball, hockey, table tennis, badminton, wrestling, handball, netball, yoga, and swimming. District Panchayat CEO Dr. V. Naveen Bhat actively participated in the shot-put event, adding to the festive spirit.
Other dignitaries present included Additional DC Dr. N. Bhaskar, Additional SP Jagannath Rai, Assistant Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Jayalakshmibai, Deputy Director of School Education Ramesh, District Physical Education Officer Arun Kumar, and various officials, physical education teachers, and students.
